Asian Law Students Association (ALSA) Universitas Hasanuddin

Okay..., guys for you who want to be a member of ALSA, it’s preferable to broaden your horizon about what ALSA is, and to start it, we are proud to present the History of ALSA, both ALSA in general and specially ALSA LC UNHAS.

ALSA (Asian Law Student Association) was established in Jakarta on May 15-20 1989 in the 1^st conference ASEAN Law Student Association (the previous name of ALSA). This conference conducted of Ismahi on September 21^st-24^th 1987 in Faculty of Law, Hasanuddin University in which Mr. Firoz Gaffar (the Head of Senate, University of Indonesia) was appointed as the Head of Ismahi.

On this 1^st Conference of ASEAN Law Student Association, there were five representatives who are indebted to for the establishment of ALSA, those people what we call as “the founders” of ALSA. They are Firoz Gaffar (Head of Ismahi), Muh. Haris Rum (Head of Senate Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia), Fauzi Bustani (Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia as member), Gita Tifani (Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia as member), Laode M.Syarief (Faculty of Law, University Hasanuddin as member). Other delegates who attended this conference except those five were observers.

This is a little bit of ALSA in general since its establish.

Anyway, when was the name of ALSA changed ? ALSA which the previous name was ASEAN Law Student Association changed its name into Asian Law Student Association. This changing was 1^st sparhted on 14^th ASEAN Law student Association Conference held in Singapore on 24-28 June 2002 in which on this forum the proposal Korea, Japan, and China. The proposal was actually mentioned on the MOU about the planning of establishment Asian Law Student Association on Korean Conference held several months before Singapore Conference. And then, in September 2004 the name of ALSA was changed become Asian Law Student Association.

The member of ALSA now are Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philipine, Hongkong, Taiwan, China, Japan, India, Thailand, and South Korea. While the member of ALSA Indonesia are University of Indonesia, Hasanuddin University, Sam Ratulangi University, Gajahmada University, Airlangga University, Brawijaya University, Padjajaran University, Diponegoro University, Soedirman University, Jember University, Sriwijaya University, and Syiah Kuala University.

Well, now let’s broaden our horizon about ALSA Local Committee (LC) UNHAS. After the establishment of ASEAN Law Student Association, there was no local committee like what is now. Like wise in UNHAS, the local committee was not exist yet at that time. The local committee in UNHAS had just started working in 1995 under the command of Miss. Sonya as the 1^st director. The director of ALSA were as follows :

8. Mr. Ashar (2003-2004)

9. Mr. Maryun (2004-2005)

10. Mr. Ahmad Nur (2005-2006)

11. Muh. Arsy (2006-2007)

12. Miss.Amaliyah (2007-2008)

Note : # in 1997-1998 the LC ALSA UNHAS was vacuum due to the choosen director as appointed Internal Division as the of National Committee, he is Mr. Irsal.

# in 2003-2004 when Mr. Ashar period just till June because the management of position was taken by the caretaker, that is Mr. Erwin Ari Nur.

That’s a little bit of either ALSA National Committee (NC) or ALSA LC UNHAS. So, guys for you who are eager to be ALSA member and are going to join the outstanding of ALSA’s athmosphere, you need to know where ALSA come from.

ALSA ACTIVITIES

ALSA has lots of annually activities joined by countries that are member of ALSA. Those activities are :

AAF (ALSA Asian Forum)

AFF is an annually event which is just recently held in Thailand on 2 - 10 August 2008 on his extraordinary event one of our member Miss Rai Hasni took part in attending it. Next year AAF in Philipinne.

Study Trip

Study trip is also annually event which is recently held in Singapore on 5-8^th July 2008. In which Unhas also sent its representatives. They are A.Aina Ilmih and Ernawati for you that are been to learning by visiting the place, ALSA Study Trip would be an unforgettable moment for you.

Asian Conference

It’s an event which you would gather with their delegates amongst Asia Country. For you guys who plan to join Asian Conference in China on January 2009, let’s check it out For further information to join, you may contact the ALSA member.

Besides those events, ALSA LC UNHAS also conduct annually national activities as follows:

Leader Meeting is a meeting for all directors LC Indonesia to talk about the division of goals which will be undertaken by LC and to share about ALSA progress and obstacles. Had been held by NC in University of Diponegoro on May 2008. In which Unhas also sent its representatives. They are Amaliyah and A.Aina Ilmih.
Pre-National Conference and Outward Bond, which had been held by LC UI in Jakarta and Bogor, 8-11 Oktober 2008. For you guys who plan to join just be a member of ALSA n’ confirm to Firman as head of delegate LC UNHAS.
National Seminar and Workshop, which will be conducted by LC Unsyiah (Aceh) on 9-11 November 2008.
Moot Court Competition (MCC), that will be conducted in Unair on February 2009.
National Conference, that will be conducted in UNHAS on March 2009.
